Happy Orchestra, produced by drummer Tarik Abouzied, is an award-winning band that puts smiles on faces and lights fires under feet. Its members are drawn from some of the Northwest’s most highly regarded funk, jazz, and soul bands including McTuff, Skerik’s Bandalabra, Richie Aldente, and more. The band, voted 2016 Alternative Jazz Group of the Year by readers of Earshot Jazz, combines instrumental and compositional firepower with a determined effort at crafting an intensely happy musical experience.
“Smoking-hot music from top-notch talent.” – CityArts Magazine
McTuff has been one of my favorite Seattle bands for years, and in 2011 I was given the honor of joining as their drummer. In October 2013 we released a new album that I’m incredibly proud of, Volume 3 – The Root.
Hardcoretet formed in 2007 and has since evolved from playing mostly funky contemporary jazz covers to original compositions stamped with an incredibly unique sound. Here are clips from our three albums Hardcoretet, Do It Live, and Experiments in Vibe:
P-Change was a seven-piece funk band comprised of other jazz studies musicians at the University of Washington. We put out two albums in 2006 and 2007 and still get together every once in a while for shows. The members of this band have gone on to do great things, except for one who is a warehouse manager, and I’m very proud of what we accomplished together.
