On a chilly February Seattle weekend I gathered a handful of my favorite musicians for two of days of recording, the first of which featured Damian Erskine on bass, Dan Balmer on guitar, and my long-time McTuff pal Joe Doria on Hammond organ and Rhodes. Everyone brought in a tune, we rehearsed in the morning, and recorded after a break for some barbecue.
Big thanks to Jason Gray and Nick Molenda for the engineering and camera work, and to Skerik for the space! Watch above, listen and purchase tracks below, and catch the band at Tula’s on Friday, May 18th!
This is Jessica Lurie. JUST LOOK AT HER. A modern Mona Lisa. Her kind visage belies the burning intensity within, a theme that translates perfectly to the music she writes and performs. There’s an ever-present sweetness and humor to her sound that’s braced by the muscle and fire she carries with her at all times, and I’m honored to be playing with her and a group of similarly equipped badasses in the coming days.
See and hear Jessica’s Instant Light Ensemble with Bill Horist, Rene Hart, and myself here:

Gravity is one of my favorite groups in town, featuring my good friends Tim Kennedy on keys, Ian Sheridan on bass, and Claudio Rochat-Felix on drums. They’re all virtuosic musicians who have clearly spent a lot of time honing their hip hop, R&B, and jazz-influenced sound. My band Hardcoretet will be performing with them on Thursday, May 24th with Gravity on at 8 and Hardcoretet on shortly after 9. We did this in January and it was a fantastic, and sold out, show. Don’t miss it! 206-443-4221 for reservations
My jazz group, Hardcoretet, will be performing at Tula’s Jazz Club in Seattle on Thursday, January 5th. We’ll be sharing the stage with Gravity, another great Seattle band that plays melodic and driving instrumental funk and soul. The show is all-ages, gets started at 8pm and is only $8 at the door.
Of all the venues in Seattle, Tula’s is probably the best for Hardcoretet both because of it’s intimate vibe and great sound. We’ll be playing tunes from Experiments in Vibe, Do It Live as well as brand new material. See you there!
