The seeds of 4Culture’s Arts Project Grant award are starting to take fruit. Two weeks ago I visited Kentridge and Kent Meridian High Schools along with Skerik, Tim Kennedy, and Evan Flory-Barnes for a workshop on artistry and emotion. We had an incredible conversation about what we all do and why, and brought a few brave volunteers up to make some music with us. We’ll be doing more and more of workshops in the future, so keep an eye out for how you can help make these happen.

I’ve also spent the last few weeks polishing the audio from Happy’s video recording and just released a few full-length tracks for streaming on Soundcloud. Check em out below and let me know what you think!

Summer 2014

Summer 2014

This summer has been one of great shows and new experiences. McTuff performed at Blacksheep Family Reunion and Summer Meltdown, with a set at Bumbershoot on the way. The band played to a packed house at Seattle’s Nectar Lounge and joined forces with Skerik, Steve Moore, and Hans Teuber for two nights of horn-filled goodness. Outside of McTuff, I had the pleasure of recording on Bill Doerrfeld’s upcoming piano trio album along with Jon Hamar, bringing together Andy Coe and Evan Flory-Barnes for a Lick Trio gig, and maintaining Hardcoretet’s residency at the Seamonster. I’ve performed in Fremont, Columbia City, Cap Hill, Downtown, Redmond, Garberville, Portland, Eugene, Hood Canal, Kenmore, Tidewater, Gray’s Harbor, Yakima, Walla Walla, Darrington, Manson, Missoula, Billings, and Bozeman with more on the way. Oh, I also now play bass in a Lake Street Dive cover band.

On the personal side, I moved to Ballard and I WENT BUNGEE JUMPING! It was incredible.

Things are good. Music is fun. More to come.

I’m happy to say that 2013 was even better than 2012. As a performer I’ve had the opportunity to play over 160 shows this year, both with my main projects and as a guest with some of my favorite Seattle bands and musicians. As a teacher I’ve continued my work with schools all over the city as well as with my own students, giving me a chance to make music and have a great time with over 50 kids aged 6 – 60. I got into grant writing, I traveled the coast and border states, and my chickens are still alive. Yep, a good year!

2013 Highlights

A goal for 2013 was finding a way outside of shows and merch sales to fund making the music I wanted to make. Continue reading 2013: 4Culture Grant, Two New Records, and Reality Television
